Japanese Gardens - Cowra

16/9/2014

The blossoms here in Canberra are confused (especially the magnolia tree) so I thought I might duck up to Cowra and see how the Japanes Gardens there are looking.  The weather wasn't promising but the rain held off with just a few big fat drops (it poured on the drive home).  Looks like I missed "prime time" but the gardens are so beautiful, anytime of the year.

Floriade 2014 Mark I

Floriade 2014.  Was eyeing off a day trip to the Japanese Gardens at Cowra but with an ordinary forcast, I opted for the walk around the lake with the Floriade detour.  Every year, it seems there are slightly less beds. Today, being day 3 of the current season also meant that the beds were not at their dazzling best so I guess there will be a few more visits (can't complain about the admission price).

Cuumbeon Reserve

The Cuumbeon Reserve sits just outside Queanbeyan, bordered by the Captains Flat Road.  The Queanbeyan River Fire Trail in an earlier life was known as the old Sydney Road or I guess, in those days as the Sydney Road.  A very interesting structure here with some heritage aspects but have been unable to find out exactly. And there is a cache nearby!
