Glendale mystery walls

8/5/2011

Felt like a romp in the bush  and my usual bush romping partner had her head in her books so I had to assemble
the rest of the Agent Basil syncronised marching team.  Surprisingly, roll call
took no time at all and we (ok, "I") set off from the Glendale depot parking
lot.  First discovery was the absolutely gawn creek crossing for the Brandy Hut
Trail, totally washed away, must have been some serious water flowing.  First
confession, I hadnt read the logs or listing for the geocaches that were hidden up this way, for yonks
(literally)hence I ignored all the hints about the easiest approach.  So, this bunny err
fox put head down and was blindly pushing through thick undergrowth.

At  750m from the cache, I was sick of the consistent thwacking of the tea scrub and it was
getting denser and I hoisted the white flag and turned for the car. I then
spotted one of them thar grassy leads, close to the creek bed so gave that a go.
Much easier going however all good things come to an end and there was more
scrub.  About 100m of undergrowth where my resolve began to waiver but then lo
and behold and yay verrily and all that, another grassy lead.  This one got me
within a 100m so I was pretty happy.  30M from GZ, faced with a big granite
tangle so it was up and over without any thought of investigating a way around.
Coordinates were spot on and a find was made very quickly.  Now, did I have the
extra 350m in me for the other nearby cache?  I must say I was glad I recorded a number of
waypoints on the way up, it did make the return trip a bit less hairy.

I did push up the extra metres to get to the other nearby cache.  The slow climb got me within phone range so a quick photo and post to Facebook in case I never return.  Very interesting bit of bush and loved the mystery of the walls.
However, the other wire fence and a number of star pickets lying about made me
think it was less complex.  AND, very happy that I kept at it.  I do have a snail trail of the route I took which is quite funny when I do the dummy spit and turn for home.  Wouldn't recommend the walk for beginners by themselves.  Very easy to get lost here as there are no walking trails.  All up 5k but some of that was very rugged.
